I am getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it. One of my biggest concerns is getting enough calories for the time I can't eat solid food. I've got butternut squash soup, tofu, eggs, protein powder, cream of rice, fruit for smoothies, etc. Also: Mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. Applesauce (though unsweetened - I can’t overdo sugar because I can get hypoglycemic if I overdo).
I try to reduce dairy in general, but I’ll probably need to have some to keep my calorie intake up - we have some leftover chocolate ice cream in the freezer no-one is eating (I hate chocolate ice cream, go figure!), so I figure it might be decent in a smoothie with some peanut butter and almond milk.
Natural pudding mix is on the way from Amazon that I’ll mix with soy milk and protein powder. I have a big container of plain Greek yogurt in the fridge. I’m thinking some goat cheese might melt nicely in the vegetable soups, perhaps with some blended tofu.
Any other suggestions? Thank you in advance!
The one thing I do remember from when I had two of my wisdom teeth pulled was that you don't want to drink anything through a straw. Apparently there's a risk that sucking on a straw can create just enough of a pressure void in the mouth to pull the blood clot out of the tooth socket (which I am told would cause dry socket and hurt like Hell).
I can't remember having to lay off the solid food though--although that might be because I only had the teeth on one side removed. How long do you expect to be on a liquid diet?
Avacados should be on the list. Because I love 'em.
I've had three wisdom teeth removed with no issues. Apparently, I heal well. But I had them out one at a time and years apart. So I could chew on one side of the mouth. Having to deal with more than one extraction at the same time time is tougher, but then you only have to do it once.
I hope everything goes well for you, Stephanie.
