It happens to everyone.
It could be related to anything from a severe thunderstorm, heavy traffic in a large city, work deadlines to running out of dollars before you run out of month. It could also be related to something on a larger scale such as an unexpected illness, loss of job or passing of a family member.
Anxiety is a normal emotional and psychological response to these things and to threats and can put us in a state of “fight or flight”- which would be appropriate at times.
There are mental health conditions related to anxiety: general anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, PTSD, and phobias.
5-4-3-2-1 Method. I have used and taught this grounding technique through the years and it really works 🤗
Focus on what’s around you and do these five things
Identify five things you can see and say them
Identify four things you can touch and touch them
Identify three things that you can hear and “listen”
Identify two things that you can smell and purposefully smell them
Identify one thing you can taste and pay close attention to it
Doing these things actually bring you into the “present moment”, which will bring your mind away from being overwhelmed, stressed, nervous or anxious!
Be mindful of your breathing, and do not hold your breath during this method 😮💨
