I’ve been developing cataracts in the past few years, and I already had floaters and poor eyesight before this latest fun development, so getting a handle on my eyesight is important for me. The eye doctor told me last summer I would need cataract surgery soon, but I’d like to avoid surgery if at all possible.
N-acetylcarnosine is a derivative of the amino acid L-carnosine. It is commonly used as an ophthalmic solution for eye conditions and is believed to have antioxidant properties that can help protect the eyes from damage.
N-acetylcarnosine (and acetyl-L-carnosine) is often used in eye drops to support eye health and maintain good vision. It’s also apparently helpful for cataracts. It takes about 3 months to see results with consistent usage.
I got some of these NAC eyedrops online a few months ago, but it took me a little bit before I sat down to actually get started on the regimen - today. I was concerned the eyedrops might sting or perhaps bother me, and I kept forgetting to get started.
But in my test today in my left eye, the eyedrops did not burn - they were soothing instead. So I’ll do both eyes tomorrow and if all seems well, up my dosage to the recommended 6-9 drops per day for an acute condition.
Meanwhile, I had started an oral L-carnosine supplement a few months ago. I would say I think it helped a little bit. Not a ton. Perhaps. Or maybe my cataracts are worse? The taillights of cars aren’t blinding me so much and the headlights seem a little more bearable.
But LED headlights from cars are still very blinding, even during the day. Sunlight on a car’s window can also be quite blinding. Colors seem bright otherwise.
I’m told cataract surgery is not a big deal. But there are always risks to surgeries, and I worry that the plastic lenses they put in might not last the possible 40+ more years of life I have in me. So drops it is, for now.
I will report back in a month or so.
Correction: My drops are NAC - N-acetylcarnosine and acetyl-L-carnosine are two variations on the same animo acid.
I recently saw something from Cultivate Elevate channel about pearl powder used topically around the eyes reversing cataracts. Try it maybe.
